The links
Tools of the trade and other distractions
Some of the most useful travel links may just happen to appear among all those photo captions in my slideshows. That is my reward to those who take the time to read through them. No less worthy are the links listed below. There are obvious personal connections, useful travel tools, and sites about/by people I may never meet.
- Caveman Al: This is Neil's uncle Allen. Not only is he just a cool guy to hang out with in Anacortes, but his miniature artwork is astonishing. And his studio is an exercise in organization and resourcefulness. An inspiring human to say the very, very least. And, I designed his website. There you have it.
- Mighty Shiny: Most every graphic designer has a rock band. Here's mine.
- Flung: Greg, the drummer for Mighty Shiny, demonstrates his many talents.
- Mountain Kids Fantasy: Greg's Other Band. Featuring the pleasing pipes of Malkah Duprix.
- Dave Fox: My travel pal Dave is a funny guy on web, paper and CD. And he knows a helluva lot about travel. He's now offering writing-based tours all over the place. Visit his Globejotter Tours website also (and see another one of my web projects).
- Jack Endino: Jack recorded us, and he and I were bandmates eons ago. And he's recorded half of Brazil by now, I believe.
- Crypt Kicker 5: This is the band we were in.
- Pelikan Design: This is the repository for a ghost (a fledgling site for my long-time business).
- Artstuff: The website featuring the art — and fantastic blog — of one of the coolest people on earth, Beth Logan.
- C/Z Records: I've said it before, I'll say it again.
- Off the Charts: Learn more about the art and history of the song-poem.
- Lileks.com: Columnist James Lileks riotous personal site.
- Sputnik Monroe: This wrestling legend from Memphis thumped segregation in the sixties.
- Yard Dog: "Folk Art of the South," this amazing little gallery lives in Austin, Texas. A definite must-see if you're visiting.
- Garde Rail: Formerly Seattle's outsider art gallery, relocated to Austin. Go figure.
- Rotten Tomatoes: The first place to go for movie reviews.
- The Smoking Gun: Celebrity backstage requirements and/or mugshots. Take your pick.
- Delusions of Adequacy: Some of the best music you're never head. For those of you who remember them, check out the article about Vexed.
- Expo '74: Why the fixation? Because it's the only world's fair I've ever seen. And it epitomizes the seventies, really. I mean, just look at that Performers link. Wow!
- Rick Steves: Who/what pays the bills.
- Roadside America: Not leaving the country anytime soon? You might have a true gem of an attraction right in your own state. This site is dangerous for those who should have something better to do.
- TimeOut: One of my favorite travel sites with up-to-date info on accommodations, restaurants, and events.
- A List Apart: A hugely helpful site for those of us always learning CSS.
